Joyce May Burkhart

Joyce May Burkhart, age 80, died Thursday, January 27, 2022 at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Melissa Burkhart, surrounded by family. She was under the care of LeRoyer Hospice and lovingly cared for by her children and grandchildren. Joyce was born on May 29, 1941 in Lily to the late Arthur and Alverta (Becker) Gaudette. She was a graduate of Antigo High School class of 1959. On January 28, 1961 she was united in marriage to Edwin Burkhart at 1st Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. The couple worked and resided in Milwaukee until 1974, at which time they returned to the Antigo area. While in Milwaukee, Joyce was employed by Marine Bank, State Sand and Gravel. Upon returning to Antigo area, Joyce worked at JC Penney, Hickey Floral, and the family business G & B Masonry. Joyce served as treasurer for the Town of Price and Lily Snowbirds. In 1999 Joyce and Ed built a home on Airhole Lake. They enjoyed family time and boating there. In 2006 they made this their permanent residence. Joyce also loved playing cards with family and her weekly Tuesday group. Joyce loved keeping her home immaculate and was meticulous about her yard and flowers. In recent years, Joyce resided at Pine Meadow where she made many dear friends. Survivors include 2 sons: Jeffrey (Betsy) Burkhart of Germantown, WI, Scott (Melissa) Burkhart of Deerbrook, her daughter-in-law Kristy Burkhart of Bryant, brothers: Larry (Carol) Gaudette of Bryant, Don (Patti) Gaudette of Deerbrook, grandchildren: Alex, Katey, Nick, Morgan, Jackson, Elizabeth, Laura, a sister-in-law Denise Gaudette of Florida, many nieces and nephews, and many members of the Burkhart family. In addition to her parents and husband, Joyce was preceded in death by son Thomas, brothers: Earl and Howard, a sister Betty Jaje, sister-in-laws: Carol and Pat Gaudette, and a brother-in-law Rudy Jaje. A memorial service will be held on Monday at 1:00 pm at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home. Reverend Marvin Kindle will officiate. Visitation will be on Monday at the funeral home from 11:00 am until the service. Internment will take place in the spring at Bent Cemetery. The Burkhart family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff and nurses of LeRoyer Hospice for their tender loving care and support.
