Joyce Ullman

Joyce Elaine Ullman, age 85 of Deerbrook, passed away on January 22, 2026 at her home.

Joyce was born on December 14, 1940 in Antigo to the late Donald George and Edna (Drew) Thielman. She was a graduate of Antigo High School class of 1959.

Joyce was united in marriage to James Lyle Doucette. He preceded her in death in November of 1967. She was then united in marriage to Gustave Irvin Ullman on June 7, 1969. He preceded her in death on July 24, 2022.

Joyce was a former member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Polar. She was active there in Ladies Aid and their quilting guild. In recent years she became a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Deerbrook.

Joyce was a bookkeeper working for various businesses including Steber Lumber Sales, Molzberger Oil Co., Wisconsin Veneer & Plywood and Gresch Implement. She also was a partner with her husband Gust owning and operating Gust Ullman Logging & Trucking.

Her interests included writing and travelling. She was a member of Antigo Writer’s Club and Wausau Regional Writer’s Club. She was also a member of Freibell Women’s Club.

She is survived by her children Allen Doucette (Khala Sullivan) of Antigo, Janine (James) Nonnenmacher of Antigo, Jay (Teri) Doucette of Gleason, Elayne (Tim) Fischer of Merrill, Jill (Gary) Hohensee of Aniwa, Gustave Jr. (Susan) Ullman of Deerbrook, and Jody Ullman of Madison, 2 sisters Helen Ullman of Aniwa and Laurie Lanier of Roanake, VA, a brother Donald (Marilyn) Theilman of Oregon, WI, 21 grandchildren Heidi (Shawn) Depies, Joshua (Kami) Zimmerman, Heather (Brian) Burhop, Jared Zimmerman (Courtney), Hannah Nonnenmacher (Wilson), Jami Nonnenmacher (Adrian), Jena Nonnenmacher, Tracie (Shane) Hall, Jennie (Travis) Karpf, Lorie (DJ) Eldridge, Stephanie (Kshitij) Kohli, James (Faith) Robinson, Jay Robinson (Cassidy), Brandi (Tyler) Knutson, Travis (Samantha) Hohensee, Calli Hohensee (Brad), Kati (Alex) Radtke, Kristi (Robert) Kohl, Ashley Ullman (Austin), Kelly Ullman, Holly Ullman (Chandler), 34 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husbands James and Gustave, she was preceded in death by 4 brothers Arlie, Vernon, Myron, Darwin Theilman, a grandson and 2 great grandsons.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 29 at 11:00 AM at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Deerbrook. Reverend Paul Radke will officiate. Visitation will be at the church prior to the service from 9:00 AM until the service. Burial will be at Forestview Cemetery in the Town of Vilas.

In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established in her name.
