Josephine "June" Johnson, of Antigo, died Sunday at Homme Home in Wittenberg under the care of her family and Aseracare Hospice. She was born June 16, 1919, to the late John W. and Emma (Jilek) Daskam. She married Clarence A. "Soapy" Johnson on Dec. 3, 1942, in Jacksonville, FL. He preceded June in death on Dec. 9, 2007. Mrs. Johnson was employed in the business office at Langlade Memorial Hospital until her retirement. After World War II, she and Soapy operated the general store in Elton until the early 1950s. She enjoyed gardening, skiing and biking, fishing, and traveling. She was a sports fan, watching the Cubs and Packers. She was active in the community, working at the voting booth, and being involved with the Special Friends program at North Elementary and the Antigo Middle School. She was a member of the John Scott Horner Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a member of Ss. Mary and Hyacinth Catholic Church. Survivors include 6 children, Kirby (Jill) Johnson of Seattle, WA, Mike Johnson of Antigo, Sally (Rich) Langan of Green Bay, Margaret "Peggy" (Ted) Pagels of Green Bay, Susan Johnson (Ron Schutte) of Beaver Dam, and Chris (Gail) Johnson of Antigo; 9 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary, and 2 sisters, Eldora Daskam and Beatrice Freudeman. A funeral Mass will take place Wednesday at 10:30am at Ss. Mary and Hyacinth Church, with Fr. Omer Kelley officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-8pm at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home. A parish wake service officiated by Fr. Charles Hoffmann will take place at 7:30pm. A second visitation will be Wednesday from 9:30-10:30 at the church. Burial will follow the service at Queen of Peace Cemetery. Friends may visit online at www.strasserrollerfh.com. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the Homme Home and Aseracare Hospice for providing loving care for June. They also thank family, friends, and neighbors who helped June while she was living at her home.
