June Mary Below

June Mary Below, age 97 of Antigo, passed away January 1, 2025 at The Bay at Eastview Medical and Rehabilitation Center.

June was born on May 7, 1927 in Antigo to the late Louis and Mayme (Schoepke) Weix.

She attended St. John Catholic School and was a graduate of Antigo High School.

On September 30, 1947, she was united in marriage to William Below in Chanute, IL while Bill was serving in the US Airforce. Bill preceded her in death in 1993.

The couple moved throughout the country and the world while Bill was in services, residing in Illinois, Alaska, California, Washington, Amarillo, TX, Okinawa, and San Antonio. Upon Bill’s retirement from military service in 1968, the couple returned to their hometown of Antigo.

June enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, time at the cottage with family, cross-country skiing, riding bike, bowling and making crafts. The family was blessed to celebrate this last Christmas with June, as this was always a special time.

June was a member of St. John Catholic Church and had a close circle of friends that she would often attend with. She also took great pleasure in being the driver amongst her friend circles.

June is survived by her three sons; John Below of Antigo, Bill (Bobbi) Below of Deerbrook, Jerry (Lynda) Below of Antigo, two grandsons: Jackson and Brandon (fiancé Samantha) Below, a sister-in-law Mary Weix and many nieces and nephews.

June was preceded in death by her sisters and their husbands; Jean and Chet Zarzycki and Dorothy and Vernon Gelow, her twin brother Gerald Weix, a daughter-in-law Terri Below, sisters-in-law Gerry Below, Ruth Preboske, Jeanne Christenson and brother-in-law Alan Below.

A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday January 8 at 11:00 AM at St. John Catholic Church. Visitation will be held in Hoffmann Hall at St. John on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the service at the church.

Reverend Joel Sember will officiate. Entombment will be in Queen of Peace Cemetery.
