Kathleen "Kassy" Ann Barta

Kathleen "Kassy" Barta passed away December 31, 2020 at the age of 70. She was born on May 18, 1950 in Antigo to the late Gerald John and Katherine Beatrice (Steinfest) Schmiege. She was a graduate of Antigo High School class of 1968. Kassy married Robert Stern, the couple later divorced. She was united in marriage to Richard “Red” Barta on March 25, 1995. Red preceded her in death on November 6, 2015. For many years Kassy was a hairstylist in Antigo. Kassy and Red then moved to Waupaca and Kassy began working in healthcare as a Registered Nurse at the Wisconsin Veteran’s Home at King. Kassy was an animal lover. Each of her dogs and cats held a special place in her heart. She also loved her family dearly. Time with her children, grandchildren, sisters, nieces and nephews were always filled with good times and laughter. Kassy enjoyed baking, especially Christmas cookies, which she shared with her family each year. Kassy is survived by her son Patrick (Heather) Stern of Antigo, 4 grandchildren; Bradly Stern of Wausau, Marcus Stern of Antigo, Sydney Abhold of Weyauwega, Brayden Vielbaum of Antigo, 6 sisters; Gail (Jim) LeVeque of Antigo, Sandy Spanbauer of Crandon, Cheryl Theisen of St. Cloud, WI, Patricia (James) Blaha of Eagle River, Becky (Wayne) Ripley of Green Bay, and Michele (Rick) Bolen of Waupaca, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, Kassy was preceded in death by her daughter; Tina Abhold. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 15 at 10:30 AM at St. Wencel’s Cemetery in Neva. Following the service, a celebration and picnic will be held at the Heinzen Pavilion located at 6th Avenue and Field Street in Antigo. Strasser-Roller Funeral Home is assisting the family.
