Kenneth “Ken” Markgraf, age 76, of Aniwa died Friday, June18, 2021 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital following a brief illness. Ken was born May 17, 1945, to the late John and Margaret (Shaw) Markgraf in Antigo. He was united in marriage to Shirley Gardner on April 24, 1976, in Elton. Ken worked for Multi-State Telephone Company, later as an auto mechanic for various auto repair shops, and for Bob Brown before opening his own business, Markgraf Auto and Repair. He also operated a tow service for Marathon County. He was a mechanic that worked seven days a week and was always willing to help his clients out at all hours. Ken also used is talent and skills to restore cars, both for himself and others. He retired January 1, 2021, having served the area for over fifty years making many friends along the way. Ken enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, watching westerns and country music. He loved being with his family and friends and was the life of the party with his great sense of humor. He liked to give the grandkids rides in the golf cart and teach them driving skills. He was forgiving, understanding, and served as a mentor and protector to many young people. Survivors in addition to his wife, Shirley, include two daughters; Rhonda (Dennis) Klement of Antigo, Rachel (Tim, Jr.) Karpf of Hortonville, grandchildren: Allyssa (fiancé Logan Peak) Zoern of Great Falls, MT, Allivia Zoern of Warrensburg, MO, Kaden and Jacine Karpf of Hortonville, Savannah Wagnes of Antigo, sisters; Pat Spencer of Phlox, Lois Boyd of Antigo, brothers; Dan (Lisa) Markgraf of Cape Coral, FL, Richard (Dawn) Markgraf of Antigo, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Ken was preceded in death by a son Scott Wagnes. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 21 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on Tuesday, June 22 from 10:00 AM until the funeral service at 11:00 AM at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home. Interment will be Aniwa Union Cemetery. A memorial will be established in Ken’s name.
