Larry A. Verhasselt

Larry A. Verhasselt of Antigo died October 26, 2011 at his home with the care of his family and LeRoyer Hospice. He was 59 years old. He was born July 5, 1952 in Antigo, a son Margaret (Janke) and the late Raymond Verhasselt. On April 29, 1983 he married Cynthia Mortenson in Antigo. He graduated from Antigo High School in 1970. He was a logger and was a lifelong resident of Antigo. Mr. Verhasselt enjoyed trucking, 4-wheeling, fishing, camping, hunting, operating his processor and helping others out whether it be plowing snow or helping with projects. Above all he treasured time with family and friends. In addition to his wife and mother he is survived by daughters, Laurie Verhasselt and special friend Todd Bricko, Pickerel, Danae Verhasselt and special friend, Kristal VanDenBerg, Appleton, Heather Verhasselt, Antigo; sons, Jeff (Jessica) Strobel, Appleton, Mike (Erin) Strobel, Antigo. Eight wonderful grandchildren that he loved very much also survive him. Further survived by his mother-in-law, Evelyn Mortenson, Nekoosa; sisters, Kathy (Greg) Pregler, Antigo, Jeanne (Steve) Broehm, Manitowoc; brothers, Ron (Becki) Verhasselt, Wausau and Ray "Butch" Verhasselt, Milwaukee; sisters-in-law, Tammy (Don) Dahms, Antigo, Jodi (James) Hessil, Tomah, Sue (Randy) Podoll, Wisconsin Rapids, Jackie Mortenson, Baraboo; brother-in-law, Jim (Tracy) Mortenson, Wisconsin Rapids; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Verhasselt, father-in-law, Jack Mortenson, and brother-in-law, John Mortenson. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 31 at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home. Father Omer Kelley officiating. Visitation will be Sunday at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and from 9:00 a.m. prior to time of the service on Monday. Burial will follow at Forestview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established in Larry's name. A special thank you to Sister Dolores and the LeRoyer Hospice staff and to the Aspirus Oncology staff for your compassionate and excellent care.
