Lawrence "Larry" Mabry

Nov 30, 1939 — Jul 19, 2026

Lawrence “Larry” Douglas Mabry, of White Lake, passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2026, with family by his side. In his final weeks, he liked to say that he would soon be cruising the golden streets of Heaven in a red ’66 Ford Galaxie convertible with Jesus at his side. He is now with the Lord, reunited with family and friends, and whole once again!

Larry was born on November 30, 1939 in White Lake, the fifth child of the late Estel and Lillian (Rickett) Mabry. At the age of 12, Larry’s family moved to Illinois, where he would eventually meet the love of his life, Jan (Griffin). They were married on August 5th, 1978, and were blessed with two wonderful sons.

Larry had an aptitude for carpentry, which became a self-taught expertise in homebuilding and remodeling. After being employed at the National Gypsum Company for 20 years as Board Plant Superintendent, he went into business for himself as a building contractor. What began humbly as Mabry Aluminum & Roofing ultimately expanded to Mabry Construction as he earned a reputation for skilled craftsmanship. Larry built several custom luxury homes in Lake Forest, IL and 57 family homes in Zion, IL--each of which, he was proud to say, was a unique variation on a single blueprint. He then expanded into real estate, earning a broker's license, and opened Country Real Estate. Following his retirement, Larry moved his family back to his roots in White Lake in 2002. There, at the age of 63, he undertook two final building projects: a home for his family, and a home for his sister. He then took a job at Antigo Menards, and retired again in 2012 as the Building Materials Manager.

Larry loved his family first and foremost. He enjoyed traveling; Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, was his favorite destination, and he delighted in trying biscuits and gravy at various restaurants in the area. Larry was a die-hard Ford lover and the 1966 Galaxie 500 was his favorite model. He collected and restored several Galaxies and other classic cars, but his red convertible was always special to him. Larry was a fan of the Chicago Cubs, and enjoyed a good cup of coffee in the morning. He loved nature and feeding the birds, waging a life-long war with keeping the squirrels out of his bird feeders.

Larry was a very active and faithful member of the Four Corners Assembly of God Church. He and Jan were Boy & Girls Missionary Challenge Coordinators for several years. Larry was passionate about the program and his leadership was instrumental in raising funds for installing fresh water wells in Africa. He also joined with others and spearheaded the development of the Church's Annual Gospel Music Fest. Friends lovingly joked that he was the "godfather" of BGMC.

In addition to his wife Jan, Larry is survived by his sons Douglas of White Lake and Dustin (Nicolle) of Green Bay, granddaughters Lilly and soon-to-arrive Luna, sister Connie DeGraff of Zion, IL, sister-in-law Deanna Mabry of White Lake, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by beloved daughter Teri, brothers Estel Jr. and Leon (Kathern) Mabry, sisters Patricia (Mike) Steckbauer and Shirley Thomas, brother-in-law Irwin DeGraff, and special granddog Cooper.

Visitation for Larry will take place on Friday, July 24, 2026 at Four Corners Assembly of God from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. A funeral service will follow, at the church at 12:00 PM with Pastor Marvin Kindle, a brother like friend officiating.

Larry’s family would like to extend a special thank you to LeRoyer Hospice for their care and compassion.
