Lawrence “Larry” Somann of Antigo passed away on April 6, 2022 at the age of 94 under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care. Larry was born on March 14, 1928 in Bryant to the late Anton and Madge (Johnson) Somann. Following his mother’s passing, he was then also raised by his stepmother Leona Tatro. In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by a dear brother, Robert Somann and son-in-law, Curly Krueger. He graduated from Antigo High School On October 18, 1952, he was united in marriage to Arlene Hintz in Antigo. She survives. Larry was dedicated to his work and instilled in his family the importance of hard work. He began his career owning his own A&W at the age of 17. He also worked in real estate, as a milkman, and as a taxi driver before retiring from the Milwaukee County Forestry Department as a Nursery Supervisor. In 1958, he began a Norwood Christmas Tree Farm with his father. He was meticulous with his tree farm and was known for his larger trees, some of which ended up at The State Capital and even The White House during Christmastime. Larry enjoyed deer hunting at the Somann deer camp. He also enjoyed the West Allis Western Days and serving on their committee. He was also a Scout Leader in the West Allis area for many years. He was self-taught in many of the things he succeeded in, including remodeling. In addition to his wife, Larry is survived by children, Jeffrey (Ginger) Somann of FL, Gregory (Jeanne) Somann of Ashippun, Lorri Krueger of Marion, Steven Somann of CA, and Guy (Trisha) Somann of New Berlin, grandchildren, Sarah, Kristin, Joel, Jesse, Jacob, Ryan, MandiLyn, Chantele-Arae, Charles, and Lillian, great grandchildren, Makenna, Ruthi, and Jesse Jr. “JP”, Gage, Christian, Stephanie and many extended family and friends. A funeral service for Larry will be held on Monday, April 11, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home with Father Charles Hoffman officiating. Visitation will take place at the funeral home prior to the service from 9:00-11:00 AM. Burial will follow the service at Town of Polar Cemetery.
