Lawson "Mickey" Macklem

Oct 19, 1947 — Sep 8, 2026

Lawson Glen Macklem III “Mickey” passed away on September 8, 2026, at his home with his wife and little dog by his side, under the care of LeRoyer Hospice. He was 78 years old.

Mickey was born on October 19, 1947, in Alpena, Michigan, to the late Miriam Dorothy Schultz and Lawson Glen Macklem II.

Mickey grew up in Cedarville, Michigan, where he attended high school and loved boating in the Les Cheneaux Islands. He was united in marriage to Christine Fortin on March 11, 1967. They moved to Marinette, Wisconsin, where he worked at Goodyear Tire for two years before starting his career at Wisconsin Public Service (WPS) in 1969. In 1972, they moved to Kewaunee, and later to Green Bay in 1975, where Mickey transitioned into corporate accounting. In 1999, he took on the role of Regional Manager for WPS in Antigo, where he eventually retired in 2007 after 38 years of service.

While working at WPS, Mickey earned his bachelor’s degree from UW–Green Bay and went on to obtain a master’s degree from Silver Lake College. Following his retirement from WPS, he worked for several local businesses and taught at Northcentral Technical College.

Mickey enjoyed woodworking and passing construction techniques down to his sons. He loved watching the Packers and Badgers, as well as listening to Bob Uecker announce Brewers games. Throughout his life, he was active in his community: he was involved in the Jaycees, helped start the softball league in Bellevue, and volunteered with Habitat for Humanity. He especially enjoyed playing on the Union Congregational Church softball team, where the players' families became close friends. Mickey also loved traveling with Christine throughout the U.S. and Europe, and he was always happy to get talked into Christine’s projects at home and in the community.

In addition to his wife, Christine, he is survived by his sons, Sean (Beth) Macklem of Green Bay and Todd (Sarah) Macklem of Cameron, WI; grandchildren, Brandon and Ashton (Sean), and Brynn and Porter (Todd); great-grandson, Ezekiel (Ashton); and sister, Sherry Savola of Waunakee.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Carylene (Ted) Stevenson.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Faith United Church of Christ, 628 Clermont St, Antigo, WI 54409, with Pastor Wes Jedras officiating. Visitation will take place prior to the service at the church from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM. Burial will be held at a later date at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens in Sault Ste. Marie, MI.
