Antigo resident Lee Dinsmore died peacefully and surrounded by family members at the Rosalia Gardens assisted living facility June 19, just four hours into his 105th birthday. Dinsmore had lived at Rosalia Gardens since 2017, following the passing of his wife, Amelia “Perk” Dinsmore at 102. The Dinsmores retired to Post Lake in the early 1970s and lived there for more than four decades before moving to Antigo in 2015. They were fixtures in the community, volunteering their time for countless organizations, issues and events over the years. Both were committed to lifelong learning, and Lee Dinsmore worked hard to become an accomplished painter and poet in his retirement. A Wisconsin native, Dinsmore had a long and distinguished career as a foreign service officer, serving in multiple posts in the Middle East as well at the State Department in Washington, D.C. He is survived by: daughters Janet Dinsmore, of Silver Spring, Maryland, and Sally Dinsmore, of Austin, Texas; grandchildren Scott Alwin, Sam Lohr, Lee Lohr, Kirsten Lohr, Sarah Shoenfeld and Nick Charlesworth; and eight great grandchildren. The Dinsmore family extends heartfelt thanks to the entire staff at Rosalia Gardens and the attached Pine Meadows apartments for their care and support for both Dinsmores in recent years. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, Aug. 21 at 11:30 a.m. at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home in Antigo. Following the service, a memorial picnic will be held until 2:00 p.m., in honor of Lee on the grounds of The Langlade County Historical Museum at 404 Superior Street in Antigo. Guests are asked to please wear masks while indoors.
