Libby S Mikkelson

Libby S Mikkelson, former Antigo resident, died at her home in Green Bay on July 15, 2012. She was 93 years old. She was born Aug. 10, 1918 in Chicago, daughter of the late Adolph K. and Julia (Jurisek) Stopen. She married Ralph Mikkelson on May 25, 1940. He preceded her in death on Jan. 20, 2007. She was a 1936 graduate of Harrison High School in Chicago, where she played French horn in their national champion band. She later played in the Antigo Community Band. She was employed for over 25 years with Sears, working as manager of the Antigo store and later returning to Chicago to finish her career. In addition to Antigo and Chicago, she resided in Florida, where her daughter Jan was born. She was a volunteer reader for Educational Tape Reading for the Blind (ETRB) and served as town clerk for the Town of Polar. She was an excellent cook of Bohemian-style food, and a skilled baker. She continued to bake her own bread at the age of 93. She also treasured time spent traveling with her sister Ola. Survivors include her 3 children, Jan Mikkelson of Cedar Park, TX, Brian (Shirley) Mikkelson of Green Bay, and Glenn (Sue) Mikkelson of Pocatello, ID; a sister, Ola Adams of Green Bay; 5 grandchildren, Brenda (Keith) Harold, Glenn Agiewich, Brian (Nicki) Mikkelson, Glenn (Amy) Mikkelson, and Nicholas Mikkelson; 6 great-grandchildren, Drew Mikkelson, Zach Mikkelson, Ethan Mikkelson, Sydney Mikkelson, Bennett Harold, and Owen Harold. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Adolph and Otto Stopen. A funeral service will take place at 4:00 p.m. Saturday at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home, 504 Edison St. Antigo. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. A memorial in her name will be established for the Antigo Public Library.
