Lola “Elaine” Simon, age 102, of Polar died Sunday, May 22, 2022 at Aspirus Langlade Hospital. Elaine was born on October 25, 1919 in Antigo to the late Floyd and Lillian (Durenberger) Schroeder. She was united in marriage to David Simon on October 31, 1945 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Deerbrook. David preceded her in death on September 21, 2016. Elaine was a graduate of Antigo High School. She then attended Langlade County Normal School and University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point. Elaine taught for thirty years, teaching in Langlade County and in Virginia and Florida while her husband served in the Navy. She served on the River Grove and Bluebell School Boards and was a member of the Langlade County Teacher’s Association. She and her husband operated a dairy farm and milk trucking company in the town of Peck for many years before moving to Polar. Elaine was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Polar. She was a member of the Ladies’ Aid, Altar Guild, and taught Sunday School. Elaine lived out her life as a Christian by reaching out to serve others as a 4-H leader and volunteering at AVAIL. In addition to her devotion to the Lord, Elaine had a great love and strong commitment to her family. Survivors include a daughter Dee Simon (Jeri Findlay) of Polar, a son Michael (Karen) Simon of Cincinnati, OH, grandchildren: Katie (John Tomaselli) Simon, Kari Carrasco, Michael Simon, great grandchildren: James and Jack Tomaselli, a host/exchange granddaughter Nadja Halilbegovich (Chris Morrison), a sister Donna Brettingen, sisters-in-law: Mae Ellen Ehrenberg, Arlene Simon, brother-in-law Bill Schlundt and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Elaine was preceded in death a daughter Kathleen Simon, her sisters: Audrey Ahlers and her husband Ray, in-laws: Ted Simon, Martin and Esther Simon, Duane and Caroline Parrish, Ron Ehrenberg, Allen Simon, and Palmer Brettingen. A visitation will be held on Friday at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home from 5:00 -7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:30 AM at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Polar with visitation from 9:30 AM until the service at church. Reverend Donald Engebretson will officiate the service. Interment will be in the Elmwood Cemetery. Friends may visit online at strasserrollerfuneralhome.com.
