Margaret “Peg” Curran, 83, formerly of Antigo, passed away on July 8, 2026, in Fort Collins, Colorado after battling dementia for several years. She passed peacefully with family at her side.
Peg was born on October 15, 1942, in Antigo to the late Dr. William and Grace Brennan Curran. She graduated from Antigo High School with the Class of 1960 and attended Fox Valley Medical School. Peg married Jim Zabransky of Antigo, and together they had three daughters. They lived in Green Bay until the couple later divorced.
Known for her warm smile and infectious laugh, Peg fondly recalled growing up in Antigo and spending summers at Bass Lake. She was an avid Packers fan and loved all things Christmas, from decorating the tree, collecting ornaments, baking cookies, shopping for gifts, and wearing festive holiday sweaters.
Peg loved working in the medical field and took great pride in her work. She returned to Antigo after school to work for her father, Dr. William Curran, at the Antigo Medical Clinic where his compassion for patients and dedication to medicine influenced her own career. As a medical transcriptionist and secretary for more than 50 years, Peg found deep satisfaction in making patient's experiences as welcoming and positive as possible.
But the center of Peg’s life was family and raising her three daughters. Relocating to the Milwaukee area to be closer to her family, she loved watching the girls play volleyball and basketball and rarely missed a game. Peg was also a beloved "Aunt Peggy" to many nieces and nephews and later a devoted grandmother/Nana to her grandchildren.
Peg will be remembered for her kindness, resilience, devotion to her family, and the joy she brought to those who knew her.
Peg is survived by daughters Ann Margaret (Michael) Payant of Delafield, WI, Heidi (Patrick) Russo-Allen of De Pere, WI, and Katie Ditter of Fort Collins, CO, grandchildren Kelly (Aaron) Mamer, Matthew Payant, Michael Payant, and Michael Russo, Ethan Allen, and Jett Allen, sisters Katie (Jim) Rebholz of Deerbrook and Mary (Richard) Hilger of Deerbrook, sisters-in-law Donna Curran of La Jolla, CA and Cheryl Curran of Weston, FL, as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Peg was preceded in death by her brothers Mike Curran and William “Bucko” Curran.
A memorial Mass will be held at St. John Catholic Church on August 29, 2026, at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the church and a burial will follow the service at Queen of Peace Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Peg’s name can be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association Wisconsin Chapter.
