Marie Bender

Marie Bender, of Post Lake, died Wed. May 6, 2009 at Eastview Medical and Rehabilitation in Antigo. She was 101 years old.She was born Aug. 15, 1907 in Russia, daughter of the late Henry and Justina (Wedhorn) Weslowsky. She married Kenneth Bender on Sept. 16, 1945 in Macnutt, Saskatchewan, Canada. Mr. Bender preceded her in death on Dec. 14, 1973.Mrs. Bender resided in Milwaukee from 1945 until 1972, and lived at Post Lake from 1972 until 2003. She was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Enterprise.Mrs. Bender was 4 when her father died, and 12 when her mother died. She then went to live with the Rev. John and Lynda Lucht and their family. She is survived by her son David (Kay) Bender of Rhinelander. In addition, she is survived by members of the Lucht family, whom she considered siblings: Merceda Schmidt, Irma Lucht, Lois Zwick, Linda Tae, and Marilyn Harrison.In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by 2 sisters, Ida Oldhauer and Olga Weslowsky; 3 brothers, Edward, Emil, Fred, and John Weslowsky; and Alfred Lucht, Ted Lucht, and Esther Lucht.
