Marie M. Felhofer died Saturday, May 25, 2013 at Kindred Colonial in Wausau at the age of 86. She was under the care of her family and Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice. She was born July 8, 1926 in Bryant, daughter of the late Ora and Maud (Clark) Caudill. She was raised in Kentucky, and returned to the Antigo area at age 16. She married Harrison Thorn, and the couple had 3 daughters. They later divorced. She married Philip Fryer. They had a daughter and a son, and later divorced. She then married Louie Felhofer, and he preceded her in death. Mrs. Felhofer was a homemaker, and she also worked at the pea cannery, Eastview nursing home, Antigo Café, and in local potato fields. She was a songwriter and gifted musician. She could sing, yodel, and play almost any instrument available. Her main instruments were guitar and piano, but she also played banjo, fiddle, spoons, harmonica, drums, accordion, and steel guitar. Along with her father, she played music on the radio for Church of God broadcasts. She also recorded a 45 titled "Back In My Day." A skilled seamstress, her family will remember her making clothes, knitting, and crocheting. She was a gardener and canned her vegetables. She was meticulous about her appearance and her housekeeping. She enjoyed the companionship of her dogs, and they held a special place in her heart. Survivors include her 5 children, Sharon Fasci (special friend Jack) of Salem, Florine "Rena" Powell (companion Reynold) of Antigo, Donna (Steve) Kowalski of Antigo, Philip Fryer (partner Philip) of Denver, CO, Mary Jane (John) Gallenberg of Antigo; 3 sisters, Jesse Faye Smith of Morehead, KY, Virginia Keen of Antigo, and Bonnie (James "Dick") Lewis of Bryant; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters, and great-grandson, Kyle Kloet. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home, with Rev. Dr. Wes Jedras officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 9-11 at the funeral home.
