Marion Sutherland, 82, of Bryant died, January 15, 2015 at Colonial Manor in Wausau. Mrs. Sutherland was born November 19, 1932 in Merrill, WI, daughter of the late Edwin and Erna (Hoeft) Hackbarth. Marion graduated from Antigo High School in 1950. Marion's introduction to piano lessons at the age of six was the onset of a long career in music. She earned her bachelor degree from St. Louis, MO and master's degree from Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY and also University of Massachusetts Graduate School. In 1958 she was honored to be awarded the International Rotary Scholarship to further studied in piano in Vienna, Austria. In the ensuing years, Marion was featured concert pianist and taught many choral and piano students in high schools and colleges. She was instrumental in forming the Wausau Conservatory of Music. On September 22, 1962 she married Robert Sutherland at Peace Lutheran Church in Antigo. They celebrated 50 years of marriage before his death in October of 2012. They made their home in Polar at Mueller's Lake. Marion was preceded in death by her parents, a very young brother and her husband, Bob. She was a lifetime member of Peace Lutheran Church. She is survived by cousins. Funeral services will be held on Monday at Peace Lutheran Church at 11:00 AM. Reverend David Karolus will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the service at the church. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials will be appreciated to Langlade County Humane Society.
