Mary L Schmiester

Mary L. (Ehardt) Schmiester passed away November 5, 2022. Mary was born on October 18, 1932, the daughter of the late Willard and Lona (Langman) Ehardt.

Mary graduated from Antigo High School with the class of 1951. She also attended EMT training in Madison.

Mary married George Schmiester at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on July 2, 1955. George preceded her in death on December 31, 2018.

Mary worked as a clerk and bookkeeper for the Langlade Farmers Co-op Store. She later worked in the emergency department at Langlade Memorial Hospital for 23 years.

Mary was a member of Rolling Homemakers Club, Senior Citizens Club, and St. John Catholic Church. She and George volunteered for the funeral dinners at church and delivered Meals on Wheels.

Mary liked working in her flower and vegetable garden, especially tending to her roses, knitting, doing crossword puzzles, watching the Green Bay Packers, and visiting casinos. Mary and George enjoyed their travels, visiting many states and Canada. Mary valued time visiting her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include a daughter Judith Lother of Springfield, VA, 2 sons: Michael (Silvia) Schmiester of Jefferson, MD and John Schmiester of Scottsdale, AZ, five grandchildren: George and Ericka Schmiester, Allyson and Madeline Lother, and Amanda (T.J.) Romano, and great-grandson Cody Romano.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband George, three sisters, and nine brothers.

A funeral mass will be held on Thursday at 11:00 AM at St. John Catholic Church. Father Joel Sember will officiate. Visitation will be in Hoffmann Hall from 10:00 AM until the service at the church. Entombment will be in Queen of Peace Mausoleum.

Memorials in Mary’s name may be directed toward All Saints Catholic School or St. Joseph’s Cancer Center.
