Michael Robert “Mike” Donnick, of Mountain, WI died July 31, 2021 at the VA Medical Center in Milwaukee. Mike was born on July 31, 1949 in Waukesha to the late Frank and Eldora (Frederick) Donnick. On June 14, 1969 he married his high school sweetheart, Christine “Chris” Manske in Appelton, WI. Mike was a graduate of Appleton High School. He then served in the US Army active in the Vietnam War. Following his time of service, Mike furthered his education under the GI Bill attending Spartan School of Aeronautics and Tulsa Junior College. He was employed at Marshfield Clinic for most of his career. Upon his retirement on July 31, 2007 he and Chris moved to Maiden Lake transitioning his parent’s cottage to their year-round home. Mike loved time at the lake telling stories around the campfire and grilling with a Point Beer in hand. He had many interests including playing bass guitar in a band during his high school years, bowling, golfing, and model trains and planes. Mike had a love for trains from the time he was a young child and spent many hours watching trains wherever he lived as well being a part of the model train club in Marshfield. Cars were another favorite classic and new; Mike could be found cruising with loved ones in his Challenger. Traveling with Chris was also a favorite, especially tropical destinations including Jamaica. While raising their family in Marshfield, Mike was an active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. He served on the church council, lectured, and ushered. He was also a member of the Marshfield Lions Club. Mike was a family man and a genuine friend. He either knew people everywhere he went or made new friends. Survivors in addition to his wife, Chris, a son Jeff Donnick of Madison, a daughter Jennifer “Jenny” (Jeffrey) Thomas of Rhinelander, 4 grandchildren: Spencer and Suri Donnick and, Aden and Chloe Thomas. In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by a granddaughter Ellie Thomas, a sister Patricia Donnick, his dear lifelong friend Steve Phillips, and his mother’s second husband and grandpa to his kids James Olson. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 10 at 11:00 AM at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home in Antigo, WI. Visitation will be form 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Following services, a reception and celebration will take place at North Star in Antigo until 2:00 PM. Graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM with military honors at Lakewood Cemetery in Lakewood, WI. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fisher House of Wisconsin, 5000 W. National Ave., Milwaukee, WI 53295-0001 or Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Fisher House provides a home away from home for those visiting loved ones at the Milwaukee VA Hospital and Mike was passionate about St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Being that Michael entered into heaven on his birthday, if you might have a birthday card, please feel free to bring it to display.
