Milo "Doug" Sylfest

Milo “Doug” Sylfest of Antigo passed away at Theda Care in Appleton on February 1, 2026 at the age of 89. Doug was currently residing at the VA home in King.

Doug was born on August 7, 1936 to the late Sigfred and Anna (Saufley) Sylfest in La Moure, ND.

He enlisted in the US. Air Force as a Junior in High School and completed his high school education while in the service. Doug proudly served his country for 22 years. During his time in the service, he was stationed in Greenland, Okinawa, Turkey, Mississippi, Texas, Montana, North Carolina, Nebraska, and the Radar Base in town. After his time in the service, Doug worked for Marathon Electric.

It was while stationed in Nebraska that he met his wife, Leila Emken. The couple was married from 1958-1978. He was then united in marriage to Judith Tradewell. Judy preceded him in death in 2023.

Doug had an appreciation for technology and a natural talent for understanding how things worked. He enjoyed making things and even assembled his family’s first color TV. Doug was known for his ability to repair electronics and old arcade games. He was also an amateur radio operator and held a private pilot’s license.

Doug is survived by sons Mike (Sandy) Sylfest of Appleton and Bruce Sylfest (Tammy Whitt-Sylfest) of Elton, grandchildren Jamie (Jessica) Sylfest, Jesse (Thambose) Sylfest, and Suzi Elst, great grandchildren, Grayson, Xavier, Rowan, and Samantha, sisters Sylvia (Paulson, LaNoma Nannenga, and Judith (Mark) Meyer.

In addition to his parents, Leila, and Judy, Doug was preceded in death by a grandson Josh Sylfest and brother Sammy Sylfest.

A funeral service for Doug will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home. A visitation will take place prior to the service from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Following the service, military honors will take place at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
