Paul E. Messer, lifelong White Lake resident, died Thurs. Sept. 24 at home under the care of his family. He was born Oct. 18, 1924 in White Lake, son of the late Robert and Ida Mae (Boyd) Messer. On April 3, 1948 he married Marcella Hill at Four Corners Assembly of God. She preceded him in death on Aug. 2, 1991.He worked for the railroad, retiring from the Soo Line. He worked for Yawkey Bissell and also did carpentry and electrical work. Paul was the head fireman at the Messer Maple Syrup camp producing "Grudgeville's Best".Paul was a member of Four Corners Assembly of God. He traveled the Midwest with the Gospel Starliters group sharing his ministry of music. He also played live on the radio with the Grudgeville Sod Busters. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army Air Corps.Survivors include 2 daughters, Wanda (John) Astorina of Neenah, WI, and Marilyn (Jeffrey) Roberts of White Lake; 4 sons, Earl Daniel Messer of White Lake, Paul Jerome (Candy) Messer of White Lake, Rob (Dianne) Messer of Polar, Rodney (Bonnie) Messer of Polar; a sister, Lyda Mae (Ray) Davis of Antigo; sister-in-laws, Lorraine and Ethel Messer; 4 brothers, James Rufus (Florence) of Antigo, Chester of Antigo, Virgil (Mary) of Lake Havasu City, AZ, Curtis of Polar; 13 grandchildren, Hilary (Jason) Franz, Daniel, Lydia, Emily Messer, Tony (Erin) Pool, Tyler and Jessica Astorina, Cory (Jennifer) Roberts, Andrew Roberts, Paul Arron (Jackelyn) Messer, Bobbi Messer, Charles (Anita), and Jon (Heather) Conn; 6 great-grandchildren, Isabelle, Zakkary, Jordan, Johnathan, Brenden and Jackson.In addition to parents and wife, Marcella, he is preceded in death by, a sister, Esther and brothers, Arlie, Jesse, Estel, Clifford, and Cletis and 2 infant brothers.The crops are harvested,the field work is done.Your season is over,time for rest."Good Job," Dad.
