Phyllis Kontney

Phyllis Kontney of Pelican Lake, and formerly of Merrill, died Thursday, Nov. 27 at Eastview Medical and Rehabilitation in Antigo. She was 80 years old. She was born Oct. 20, 1928 in Merrill, the daughter of the late William Degner and Leona (Hass). She married Gerald Kontney on Aug. 24, 1957 in Lindstrom, MN. He survives. Mrs. Kontney graduated from Merrill High School in 1946, and worked as an administrative assistant at Marathon Electric for 35 years. She was a member of Elcho United Church of Christ, and a former member of St. Stephen's United Church of Christ in Merrill. She sang in the church choir in Elcho and Merrill. She was a good cook, and she enjoyed fishing and watching birds. In addition to her husband, Gerald, of Pelican Lake, she is survived by her sister, Harriet (Jim) Boettcher of Merrill; nieces and nephews, Pam (Dan) Dahm, Gregg (Joan) Boettcher, Brad (Amy) Boettcher, Chris (Nancy) Kontney, Jack (Beverly) Kontney, Jan (Al) Smith, Kathy (Chuck) Kontney, Paula (John) Conner; and many great nieces and nephews. Mrs. Kontney is preceded in death by her parents, and brother in law, Robert Kontney.
