Phyllis Mae Wenzel

Phyllis Mae Wenzel, age 91, of Antigo died Sunday November 8, 2020 at Rosalia Garden under the care of Le Royer Hospice and her family. Phyllis was born February 25, 1929 in Antigo, the daughter of the late Herman and Tillie (Bruening) Hoppe. She graduated from Antigo High School in 1946 and from Langlade Teacher’s College in 1948. She later received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from UW Stevens Point. On June 25, 1949 Phyllis married LeRoy “Lee” Wenzel at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Polar where she was a lifetime member. Lee preceded her in death on July 27, 1995. Phyllis was a teacher for the Unified School District of Antigo for thirty years. She taught grade 3 at Spring Valley School for twenty-five of those years. She is survived by a daughter, Connie (James Engmann) Wenzel of White Lake and two sons, Doug (Susan Brushafer) Wenzel of Richfield and Gary (Ann) Wenzel of Mosinee. Also surviving are three grandchildren Jennifer (Lukas) Bootz, Whitney (Andy) Bower and Logan Wenzel, and five great-grandchildren, Lucy and Sylvia Bootz and Aubrie, Coltan and Gwen Bower. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Doris, in 1949 and a brother, Lyle in 1951. A memorial service was held for immediate family. Burial will take place at St. John's Church Cemetery in Polar. The family would like to extend a special thank you to LeRoyer Hospice and the staff at Rosalia Gardens for their outstanding care.
