Rebecca Jayne Gau

Rebecca Jayne Gau, also known to many as Emma, of Elcho, passed away on May 2, 2026 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. She was 82 years old. Rebecca was born on March 29, 1944 to the late Mary (Lacy) and Wilbert Wiesmann and was raised in Marion, WI. She married Gerald Gau on June 27, 1964. He preceded her in death. Rebecca graduated high school and went on to attend beauty school. She worked as a homemaker and she and Gerald raised their family in Green Bay. The couple then moved to Las Vegas from 1990 to 2004 when Gerald’s job took them there. They then returned to Wisconsin, residing in Elcho to enjoy their retirement. Rebecca was an avid milk glass collector. She enjoyed going to auctions with Gerald and crafting throughout the years. She was an avid reader and enjoyed camping trips, especially seeing waterfalls. She loved attending the grandkids’ sports. Rebecca is survived by their 6 children Andrew (Julie) Gau of Sobieski, Brian Gau of Oneida, Carla (Bradley) Wallenfang of Tomahawk, Debra Gau of Green Bay, Ernest (Melinda) Gau of Green Bay, and Frances (Paul) Eighmy of Elcho, 14 grandchildren Tyler, Travis, Trisha, and Tara Gau, Quinton and Elena Wallenfang, Ian Arnforfer, Austin Lee, Arlo and Madeline Gau, Jacob (Madeline), Kaleb, Lauren, and Joshua Eighmy, and 3 great grandchildren Avrielle Younger, and Lincoln and Hattie Dombrowski. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law Donna Gau, paternal grandparents Henry and Lena Wiesmann and maternal grandparents John and Genevieve Lacy. A celebration of life will be held by Rebecca’s family on June 27th at Elcho Clubhouse from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Those attending are invited to wear their favorite shade of blue. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Rebecca’s name can be directed to the Elcho Booster Club. These can be dropped off at the Elcho school office or mailed to P.O. Box 800, Elcho, WI 54428.
