Richard "Dick" Donald Martiny, of Antigo, died Thurs. Oct. 21 at Langlade Hospital. He was 88 years old.He was born Aug. 21, 1922, son of the late Irvin and Alvina (Benishek) Martiny. He married Katherine Ziglinski on April 19, 1952. She survives and resides in Antigo.Mr. Martiny owned and operated Dick's Standard Service and Neva Marine. He later was employed at Merit Gear until his retirement.He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. During World War II, he served in the 9th Armored Division and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed time at the lake with his family, stock car racing, watching the Packers, and fishing. He also liked to visit his favorite local taverns, Quinn's, Kool's Klub, Reif's, and the VFW Hall.In addition to his wife, Katherine, survivors include a son, Kenneth (Cindie) of Saucier, MS; 2 sisters, Mary Jo Martiny of Pickerel, and Jean Martiny of Antigo; a brother, Phillip (Nell) of Antigo; 2 grandchildren, Richard (Colleen) Martiny of Merrill, and Kristina (Nicholas) Mills of Land O Lakes, FL; and 4 great-grandchildren, Blaze and Chadd Martiny, and Clinton and Nichole Mills.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Gail Dimond, Ellen Herpe, Margaret Leisenfelder, and Doris Pamperin, and a brother, James.
