Richard L. Antone

August 18, 1935 — April 24, 2023

Richard “Dick” Leon Antone, of Antigo, died Monday, April 24, 2023, at Rosemary Manor in Mattoon. He was 87 years old.

A member of the Oneida Nation, Dick was born on August 18, 1935, and raised in Oneida.

In 1960, Dick was united in marriage to June Marie Blaha at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Antigo.

He was employed by Antigo Block Company for 38 years and found time to do additional masonry work. A hard working, family-oriented husband and father, Dick took great pride in applying those skills and building their home here in Antigo. He transformed the space over the years planting and tending his trees which he was able to enjoy during his retirement.

Dick enjoyed the outdoors. He taught his sons to hunt and fish and instilled a love for the outdoors for all the family through family camping trips. When their children were young, he enjoyed sledding with them and coaching baseball. In his later years he was content to relax in the shade of the trees he had tended, to drive through the countryside with his son Kevin, and to make the occasional trip to the casino.

In addition to his wife, June and his sister Betty McGeshick of Watersmeet, MI, Dick is survived by 3 daughters: Debbie Korbisch (Kevin Sommer) of Marathon City, Kim (Gary) Boxell of Riverside, IL, Barb Antone of Antigo, 3 sons: Kevin Antone of Gleason, Brian (Tammy) Antone of Birnamwood, Bradley Antone of Antigo, 9 grandchildren: Ashley and Whitney Antone, Caitlin and Drew Boxell, Jordan and Cameron Antone, Jared Antone, Bradley and Casper Antone, and great grandchildren: Michael, Mat, and Rylee.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, siblings: Ira Antone, Jr., Darlene Antone, James Antone, and Carol Elm, his son Richard J. Antone, and his grandson Gunnar Sommer.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 2, at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home from 10:00 am until the Service of Remembrance & Memories at 11:30 am. Dick will be honored with native prayers and song by the family.
