Robert E. Curran, II, age 64, of Antigo died Sunday, October 10, 2021 at Aspirus Rhinelander Hospital, due to COVID complications. Bob was born January 11, 1957 in Antigo to JoAnn (Prochaska) Curran and the late Robert E. Curran. Bob was a graduate of Antigo High School class of 1975. During his high school years, he trained as a dental technician under Dr. Raymond Portman. He lived and worked in Green Bay for 2 years following graduation. It was there that he met Mary DeGroot, whom he was united in marriage to on June 30, 1979 in Green Bay. Mary survives and resides in Antigo. He returned to Antigo where he owned and operated Curran’s Dental Studio and shortly thereafter began his career as a jeweler, opening Gold Miner Jewelers in 1992 in conjunction with the dental studio. Currently, Bob continued in his jewelry business. Bob had a passion for the Antigo and Langlade County communities. He was a member of Antigo ELKs club for 45 years. Bob was a member and past president of the Antigo Area Chamber of Commerce. He was currently a member of the Langlade County Board representing Town of Antigo -Ward 1 and serving on Forest and Recreation, Public Safety and Social Services committees. As a member of the Republican Party, Bob served as a past president and as treasurer for Senator Mary Felzkowski. Bob was a patriot, always wanting the best for our country. He enjoyed his time and involvement with his daughters and wife. He was active in 4-H as a leader and former president of the 4-H Horse and Pony Project. He was a successful girls basketball coach while his girls were in grade school, coaching the team to many tournament championships, as well as the division championship. Bob had a true connection with the outdoors as an avid hunter and fisherman. He met friends across the nation through his many hunting and fishing trips. His family and friends reaped the benefits of his hunting, fishing, and his meat processing. Bob’s friends and family were of upmost importance to him, and he expressed his love for others through genuine acts of kindness. Survivors in addition to his wife, include his mother JoAnn Curran of Antigo, his daughters: Katie (Gary F.) Sislo of Rothschild, Laura (Nick) Janak of Weston, Emily (Eric) Christianson White Lake, five granddaughters: Madilyn Sislo, Kaylie Sislo, Alice Janak, Vianne Janak, Wren Christianson, sisters: Elizabeth (Samuel) Ourada of Nekoosa, Colleen Curran of Maryland, a brother David (Gail) Curran of Post Lake, his mother-in-law Alice DeGroot of Antigo, his dear canine hunting buddy Burnie and many nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his father, Robert E. Curran,his father-in-law Ronald DeGroot, and a nephew, Joshua Wagner. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 am at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home. Reverend Charles Hoffmann will officiate. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm Friday and from 10:00 am until the service on Saturday at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations will be directed towards various local organizations in memory of Bob.
