Robert J. Welnetz

Robert James "Bob" Welnetz, age 63 , of Antigo died Monday at his home. Mr. Welnetz was born May 26, 1946 in Antigo a son of the late Nick Welnetz and Millie (Berndt) Welnetz.Bob was a graduate of Antigo High School. Following his graduation he joined the National Guard. December 14, 1964 Bob was called to active duty. He served in Vietnam as a Sergeant First Class. He was awarded national defense service medal, Vietnam campaign w/ 60 device, Vietnam service medal, six overseas bars, three combat ribbons, good conduct medal, POW medal of valor, distinguished service cross, three purple hearts, a bronze star, and received congressional and presidential unit citations. Bob was fluent in Vietnamese and served as an interpreter during his service.Bob enjoyed the peace and quiet of going to a spring hole or lake to fish.He is survived by his mother Millie Welnetz of Antigo, 4 sisters; Margaret (Bill) Mikkelson of Coleman, WI, Patricia (Edward) Waselewski of Oak Creek, WI, Carol (Kenneth) Fleischman of Antigo, and Paula (Mark) Marshall of Gleason, WI; a brother James of Casper,WY; and many nieces and nephews and their families. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. In following Bob's wishes, no services will be held.
