Robert Rohe, age 88 of Mountain, passed away peacefully the evening of October 24, 2022 at the Bay at Eastview, surrounded by family, after a courageous 3 year battle with Parkinson’s and dementia.
He was born at the Theda Clark Hospital in Neenah, WI on November 12, 1933, the son of Cyril and Linda (Glawe) Rohe.
His family moved to Mountain when he was seven years old. He graduated from Suring High School in 1953.
Following high school, he enlisted in the Army and spent 3 years in Seattle Defense during the Korean War. He then was employed by Western Electric and spent 18 months at Clear, Alaska working on the Ballistic Missile Early Warning System (BMEWS).
He married Shirley M. King on July 26, 1969 at the former Evangelical United Brethren Church in Coloma.
Bob worked for the Oconto County Highway Department for 30 years until his retirement in 1990.
He kept very busy after retirement, helping a number of cabin owners to open and close cabins and do maintenance work. He helped a former pastor build a retirement home on the Menominee River at Portersfield.
He was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He had a great sense of humor and was always ready with a joke for anyone. Throughout his life, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, traveling, tinkering with cars, canoeing, kayaking, 4 wheeling, and playing sheepshead.
He has been a member of the Forest Larger Parish Presbyterian Church in Lakewood since 1969, where he served many years as an Elder and Treasurer. He was a member of the American Legion Post 0044 in Wabeno. He served many years as a supervisor and treasurer in the Town of Doty. He was one of the charter members in the formation of the Doty Volunteer Fire Department.
He is survived by Shirley, his wife of 53 years and children, Shari Lynn Rohe of Hartford, WI, Ronald (Christine) Rohe of White Lake, and Cynthia Sue (Kevin) Clarksen of Mountain, granddaughter, Emily Faith Rohe of White Lake, 5 step grandchildren, John Glass of Tehachapi, CA, Shannon (Chris) Hutto of Yukon, AZ, Amber (Steven) Brown of Danville, KY, Holly (Levi) Kill of Gansevoort, NY, Connor (Sara) Clarksen of Allouez, WI . He is further survived by 11 step great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and brother and sister-in-law, Duane (Alice) King.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cy and Linda Rohe, in-laws, Darwin and Esther King, sister, Shirley (Bill) Naylor, sister, June “Toots” (Dave) Kleinhans, brother Kenneth (Valorie) Rohe, nieces, Roxanne Huff and Sue Phipps and nephew Joel Faust .
A memorial service for Bob will be held on November 12, 2022 at Forest Larger Parish Presbyterian Church in Lakewood at 11:00 AM. Visitation will take place prior to the service at the church from 9:30 to 11:00 AM. Burial will follow the service at Mountain Cemetery. Bob will be honored with Military Honors being preformed at the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the church memorial fund.
