Roger F. Maas, 83, of Shawano and formerly of White Lake died Thursday at Birch Hill Care Center in Shawano. Roger was born June 26, 1925 in the Town of Seneca to the late Hubert and Ella (Schenk) Maas. He married Marie Farrand on December 21, 1946 in Antigo. She preceded him in death August 29, 2006.Mr. Maas dairy farmed in White Lake for many years. He later owned and operated a saw Mill as well as doing small excavation jobs in the White Lake area. Roger worked for Doemel Excavation in Oshkosh before returning to White Lake where he retired in 1988.Roger served the Town of Wolf River for 26 years, 16 years as town chairman and 10 years as town supervisor.He was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in White Lake where he served as an usher and was a church elder. A veteran of foreign war, Mr. Maas served in the US Army entering at Ft. Sheridan June 21, 1944. He was with Company D 137 BN 35th Infantry and was honorably discharged in 1946. He received the Victory Medal European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, Bronze Battle Star for the Rhineland Campaign, 3 Overseas Service Bars, Army of Occupation Medal – Germany. Mr. Maas was a member of American Legion, VFW, and DAV.Survivors include a daughter Diana "Jeannie" (Myron) Heistad of Shawano, a son John (Karen) Maas of White Lake, a daughter –in-law Marie Maas of White Lake, 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grand son.He was preceded in death by 2 son James in infancy and Michael and a brother Eugene Maas.
