Rose Menting, of Elcho died Friday peacefully at her home. She was 91. Mrs. Menting was born January 13, 1921 in Antigo a daughter of the late John and Mary (Wield) Birtzel. She married Orville Menting in 1937 at St. John Catholic Church in Antigo. He preceded her in death on January 12, 1997. The Mentings lived in Waukesha from 1941 until returning to Antigo in 1986. Mrs. Menting worked as a nursing assistant for more than 20 years and was a housekeeping supervisor at Waukesha Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Christian Mothers Society while in Waukesha and was a member of Ss. Mary & Hyacinth's in Antigo. Mrs. Menting was a great cook, often entertaining family and friends. She enjoyed camping, gardening, and crossword puzzles. She loved to spend time with her family and taking care of her great grandchildren. She was always willing to lend a hand with all those do it yourself projects. Survivors include a daughter Betty (Thomas A.) Vahl of Pearson, 3 sons, Gerald (Mary) of Milwaukee, Larry of Arkansas, Tim (Donna) of Waukesha, 13 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren, 3 sisters, Loretta Holup of Antigo, Irene (Jim) Patteson of Ohio, and Clara Bemis of Stoughton. She was preceded in death by 2 infant sons, a granddaughter, a daughter in law, 3 sisters, and 4 brothers. A memorial mass for Mrs. Menting will be held on Wednesday at 11:30 am at Ss. Mary & Hyacinth's Catholic Church. Father William Brunner will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:30am until the mass at the church. Private entombment will be in Queen of Peace Columbarium at a later date.
