Rosemary R. Hanus, 100, passed away on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at her home in Antigo in the care of LeRoyer Hospice, Hands With Heart, and her family. She was born on November 12, 1920 to Frederic and Rose (Hittle) Duquette in Antigo and lived here for nearly all her life, leaving only for brief jobs in Sheboygan and Green Bay during WWII. Rosemary also worked at the glove factory on Clermont Street during the war. On July 9, 1945, she married John Hanus, Jr. He died on March 10, 1999. In the late 1950’s she began working at the Home Theater, which was operated by her husband’s family. From 1962 until 1982 she was a salesclerk at F.W. Woolworth. In more recent years she embroidered many articles for sale in the Ye Olde Craft Shoppe and helped out in the store. Rosemary attended St. John Catholic School and graduated from Antigo High School. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and later Ss. Mary and Hyacinth Church where she belonged to their Rosary Society and helped prepare dinners for many funerals. She and her husband were members of the Langlade County Historical Society for a number of years. They were also Sponsors of the Antigo Public Library, and she contributed to the Antigo Community Food Pantry. Rosemary is survived by a son, John G. Hanus of Antigo; a daughter, Ruth Ann (Robert “Bob”) Meyer of Antigo; a granddaughter, Pamela (Chris) Brinkman of Eau Claire; and a sister, Barbara (Jerry) Guenthner of Eagle River. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Curtis Meyer, and three sisters: Carolyn (James) Jones, Arlene (John) Lapinski, and Marian (Eugene) Cheslak. A Mass of Christian Burial for Rosemary will take place on Monday, August 2, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Ss. Mary and Hyacinth Catholic Church. A visitation will take place at the church prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 AM. Burial will follow the service at Queen of Peace Cemetery.
