Roy Phillip Spurgeon

Roy Phillip Spurgeon “Pops”, lifelong resident of Antigo, passed away on December 22, 2020 at the age of 86. Roy was born on April 17, 1934 to the late George and Lattie (Smith) Spurgeon in Antigo. Roy served in the Merchant Marines for 2 years. He was a jack of all trades, working at potato farms, Hooper Highline, and for Langlade County. He married Blanche Clay. The couple later divorced, and she preceded him in death. Roy enjoyed watching NASCAR, gambling, playing the lottery and spending time at Boettcher’s with friends and family. Roy is survived by daughters Candy (Rick Elst) Spurgeon of Antigo and Pamela (Paul) Nitzke of Berlin, grandchildren Heather Love of WA and Joseph Meyer of Oshlosh, great- granddaughter; Tilly of WA, brother; Ray Spurgeon of Antigo, and many nieces and nephews. Roy was preceded in death by sisters; Marcella and May and brothers; Mike and George. A celebration of Roy’s life will be scheduled for a later date.
