Sally Jo Benes

Sally Jo Benes, lifelong Antigo resident, died at her home under the care of her family and LeRoyer Hospice on Thursday, November 15, 2018. She was 72 years old. Sally was born October 23, 1946 in Antigo, daughter of the late Edward and Evelyn (Turney) Swoboda. She married Anton "Butch" Benes on December 7, 1968, and he survives. She was a 1965 graduate of Antigo High School. She continued her studies at Stevens Point School Practical Nursing, graduating in 1967. She cared for countless residents, working as a licensed practical nurse at Eastview for 40 years. Her grandchildren were her life, and she also enjoyed playing cards, fishing, gambling, going to the farm, sitting on the porch, and cheering for the Brewers. In addition to her husband, survivors include 2 daughters, Kim Kennedy of Antigo, and Jodi (Tom) Waydick of Rhinelander; a son, Rick (Jennifer) Benes of Deerbrook; 5 grandchildren, Brett, Hunter, Brody, Laney, and Jackson; 2 brothers, Tom (Karen) Swoboda of Appleton, Bob (Joanne) Swoboda of Neenah; and a sister-in-law, Joyce Benes of Green Bay. She will also be missed by her 2 best friends of 65 years, Sue Beckingham and Christine Haedike. A memorial service will take place Monday at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home at 5:30 p.m., with Fr. Zach Weber officiating. Visitation will be 3:00-5:30 at the funeral home.
