Shirley Jean Schroepfer of Antigo passed away on July 20, 2026 at Rosalia Gardens under the care of LeRoyer Hospice. She was 97 years old.

Shirley was born on May 13, 1929 in Waukegan, IL to the late Arnold and Gladys (Pazourek) Neufeld. As a child, her family moved to Antigo and she graduated from Antigo High School, class of 1948.

On July 2, 1949, she married the love of her life, Raymond Schroepfer at St. Hyacinth’s Catholic Church. Their marriage was a true partnership and a great love story lasting more than six decades and shaped the life they built together. Ray preceded her in death on April 8, 2015. Shirley missed Ray and often expressed, “I loved Ray dearly”.

Shirley worked at Hunter’s Supermarket for many years, and she recollected those memories fondly and with feelings of joy.

She was a member of Ss. Mary and Hyacinth Catholic Church.

Shirley was a loving mother and homemaker that truly enjoyed providing delicious meals, special baked goods, and loved attending her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. She also was a fan of Milwaukee Brewers, Green Bay Packers, and high school basketball, especially the WIAA girls state basketball tournaments. In her younger years she was a Brownie leader, a member of Antigo Fire Department Auxiliary, enjoyed bowling and attending music events including Kids from Wisconsin, Sweet Adelines and Judy and Jay.

Shirley and Ray would delight in taking the grandchildren fishing along with a picnic lunch and lots of laughs.

Shirley had an important role in hunting season, providing camp soup and her yummy, mashed potato donuts. She enjoyed evenings playing Farkle up until recent months. She and Ray enjoyed traveling to Deadwood, SD, Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, and visiting her sister in Atlanta.

Her family will remember Shirley for her many acts of love, her sense of humor and quiet strength.

Shirley is survived by sons Steven (Jackie) Schroepfer of Antigo, Ronald (Cami) Schroepfer of Antigo, and Tim (Amy) Schroepfer of Howard, daughter Luann (Les) Barske of Antigo, daughter-in-law Deanna Schroepfer of Elcho, 13 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and a sisters-in-law Jean Neufeld Judy Schroepfer and Janice Schroepfer.
