Thomas Lee “Leebo” Hunter, age 75, of Summit Lake died Tuesday, January 23 at Aurora BayCare Medical Center in Green Bay.
Lee was born September 23, 1948 in Antigo to the late Thomas and Loraine (Boettcher) Hunter.
Having followed in the family business, Lee owned and managed Hunter’s supermarket for over 25 years in Antigo. He then joined the Langlade County Sherrif’s Department as a corrections officer for 16 years.
Lee was a graduate of Antigo High School class of 1966. He was a star athlete in football and wrestling, and went on to play football at UW - Superior.
He had a passion for athletics and any sort of competition, enjoying waterskiing, snowmobiling, motocross, and hockey. He loved attending professional, collegiate, and high school sporting events. Uncommon for the area, he was an avid Chicago Bears fan, a devotion passed onto his children.
Lee was involved in snowmobile racing with the Hunter and Resch Motorsports racing teams. He also loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, taking on many adventures across the US.
Lee was known as a terrific storyteller. One could listen to his stories time and again and still be captivated.
Survivors include two sons: Brian (Rachel) Hunter of Savage, MN and Chad (Michelle) Hunter of Eau Claire, WI, a daughter: Tana Hunter of Weston, WI, two grandchildren: Sarah and Brooklyn Hunter, as well as two sisters-in-law: Nancy and Jane Hunter, and his grand dogs: shih tzus Payton, Tigo, and the late Rigby; and boxer / boxer mixes Macie and Jasmine.
He married Alison “Roye” Rooney, the couple later divorced. He later married Pamela Imig, they later divorced.
In addition to his parents, Lee was preceded in death by two brothers, Michael and Robert Hunter.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2024 from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Peace Lutheran Church in Antigo, with a memorial service to follow at 1:00 PM at the church. Reverend David Karolus will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Antigo Gridiron Club, Langlade County Humane Society, or the Boys and Girls Club of Langlade County.
