Virginia “Ginny” Summ peacefully passed away on January 6, 2022 at Aspirus Hospital surrounded by her family. She was born October 18, 1936 in Merrill, WI. Daughter of the late Louis and Flora (Lamore) Odegard. She graduated from Merrill High School. She moved to Milwaukee, WI and worked for Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance. She married Martin Summ on July 20, 1957 in Merrill, WI at Our Savior Lutheran Church. Together they dairy farmed in the township of Polar. She loved cooking for her family for holidays and birthday celebrations at their home and loved spending time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She had a large garden and did canning. She loved tending to her flowers and cutting grass. She enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling, and traveling. She worked with Triple Progress 4-H club as a general leader for many years. She was a member of the Crestwood Home Makers Club and Neff Switch Card Club. She also enjoyed playing cards with many friends. She worked for election in the Town of Polar for many years. She worked also at the reception desk at the Cutlass Motel and volunteered for AVAIL. She was active in the Altar guild at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. She sang with Sweet Adlines later known as the Note Blenders for 17 years. She is survived by her husband Martin of 64 years, 2 daughters, Debbie Meade of Antigo and Pamela (Todd) Shadick of Neenah, and 4 grandchildren; Amy (Jon) Roberts of Antigo, Joshua (Maleela) Meade of Antigo, Tiffany (friend Jon) Shadick of Ripon, and Tyler (Kim) Shadick of Sheboygan, 9 great grandchildren; Derek, Makayla, and Ethan Roberts of Antigo, Lucas, Leon, Levi, Isabella, and Merida Meade of Antigo, and Cayden Shadick of Sheboygan, 2 great great grandchildren, Adalyne and Bentlee Roberts of Antigo, one brother David (Mary) Odegard of Minocqua, one sister-in-law Renata Washatko of Antigo, and one brother-in-law David (Joann) Summ of Mount Horeb. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Mark Allen, a grand daughter Katie Meade, two brother-in-laws Gene and Dewain Washatko, and one sister-in-law Gertrude Washatko. Funeral service will take place on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at 11:30 AM at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Polar with Reverend Donald Engebretson officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until 11:30 AM. A graveside service will follow at the church cemetery. A special thank you to the nursing staff at Aspirus Hospital for all their care and compassion.
