Virginia Wegner of Deerbrook died at Kindred – Eastview in Antigo on Jan. 7, 2014 at the age of 90. She was born July 8, 1923 in Wausau, daughter of the late Frank and Erna (Buttke) Perske. She was raised in Wausau, where she attended Trinity Lutheran School. She graduated from Wausau High School in 1941. She attended business courses, and worked for the Wausau Chamber of Commerce for 18 years. She married Morris Wegner on August 22, 1959 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wausau. After marriage, Mrs. Wegner moved to Deerbrook, where she was a homemaker and dairy farmed with her family. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, watching birds, and spending time with her family. Her friends, neighbors, and family will remember the delicious cookies she baked. She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Deerbrook, where she was active in the Ladies Aid. She dedicated time each day to studying the Bible. Survivors, in addition to her husband, Morris, include a daughter, Sarah Wegner of Wausau; 2 sons, Mark (Gail) Wegner of Watertown, and John (Barbara) Wegner of Appleton; a sister, Marion Hoff of San Francisco, CA; a sister-in-law, Ernestine Wegner of Waukesha; 6 grandchildren, Aaron, Mary, Kelly, Samuel, Alex, and Ross Wegner; 2 nieces, Susan Fivelstad, and Denise Cummings; and a nephew, Morgan Hoff. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Ruby (Lester) Zirkel; and 2 brothers-in-law, Ogden Wegner and Harley Hoff. A funeral service will take place on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Deerbrook, with Rev. Jerome Hahn officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home and on Saturday from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow the service at Elmwood Cemetery. Memorials in her name may be directed to St. Matthew Lutheran Church.
